The Most common service our clients require is an Intensive archaeological survey

An Intensive Archaeological Survey represents “a reasonable and good faith effort to carry out appropriate identification efforts” [36 CFR 800.4(b)(1)]. The survey is a reconnaissance of the project area’s landscape that seeks to answer five critical questions.

1.     Is cultural material present within the project area?

2.     Does the cultural material constitute an archaeological site?

3.     What is the horizontal extant of the site if one is present?

4.     What is the cultural affiliation of the material?

5.     What is the likelihood of site integrity?

Black Oak Archaeology begins every survey with background research to provide us and our clients with the best possible information on the potential for archaeological sites to be present. This background research consists of state site files checks, a review of historic maps and aerial photos, a review of the soil and geology of the project area, and GIS modeling of site probability. Fieldwork is conducted to meet and exceed state guidelines for cultural resource management. Our goal is to provide the most accurate picture possible of any cultural resources within the project area so that our clients have all the information to complete their projects.

Federal Laws and Regulations Regarding CUltural Resources INclude
